Designing a Creative Approach Conference

In February 2007, Theatre Nemo hosted a conference with ‘The Butler Trust’ – a charity that promotes excellence in UK Prisons.

The conference featured performances from the cast at HMP Barlinnie. The Cabinet Secretary forJustice, Kenny MacAskill attended for part of the conference, and encouraged Theatre Nemo to continue and expand its work.

Speaking at the conference, Andrew McClellan, HM Chief Inspector of Prisons said: “I was hugely impressed at the conference by the very creative approach Theatre Nemo adopts to supporting people with mental health problems.

“I had been made aware some time ago of the positive impact this work is having on prisoners in Barlinnie. My hope would be that the work may be extended to other establishments on a regular basis.”
